Creating a new collection is an adventure every time. From the idea through to launch, our team is dedicated to developing designs to be loved.
Read on to discover how our latest range was inspired by our very own team at Kite HQ, who shared their favourite childhood memories to help the next generation create theirs.
The inspiration
Our founder and head of design, Jo, starts every new collection with a spark of an idea, often gleaned from her days spent out and about enjoying the best that Dorset has to offer.
“I had been pondering the theme idea for quite some time and knew it was special the moment I emailed everyone at Kite. I asked for their childhood memories and the response was immediate and fantastic. Reading the team's replies and discovering their recollections often left me feeling quite emotional.
We were awash with ideas and it was a joy to bring some of our most beautiful memories to life. We hope we’ve captured an uplifting and nostalgic collection that you love as much as we do.”
Key memories
From everyone’s shared memories, designs started to develop and we imagined all the new childhood memories little ones will enjoy making.
Daisy chain making led to the development of our daisy fields print. Family caravan holidays to Wales inspired our holibobs print and the campervans you can spot throughout the collection. Our peek-a-pony collection came from Jo’s own obsession with drawing horses, and classic rides and candy floss stalls can be spotted in our fun fair range.
Carefully considered colours
After the theme is decided and ideas are developing, Jo meticulously selects the colour palette which forms the building blocks of the collection.
Each shade is carefully chosen to complement the others while bringing life to the emerging prints and designs.
In this collection you’ll find delicate lavender, sunshine yellow, zingy spearmint and more. These colours offer a fresh, balanced palette and provide endless mix and match opportunities across the range.
Print perfection
Our unique prints are made really special by the stories behind them. They are then hand drawn with passion and care by our talented in-house artist.
The inspiration for this season's floral ditsy came from fond memories of making flower petal potions in the garden. We researched fragrant flowers and seasonal blooms, choosing our favourites to recreate. After trialling different shades, scales and layouts, our petal perfume print began to take shape.
Finishing touches
Some styles have a special motif, appliqué or embroidery which often incorporates elements from different prints. We bring designs together across styles to maximise coordinating options.
This season you’ll find buzzing bees, farmyard friends, vehicles galore and of course, a dino or two!
We work tirelessly until everything is just right and the theme is brought to life.
Clothes made with love
Our garments are made across six factories in Turkey, India and China. We work very closely with our partners to achieve ethically made, planet-friendly, high-quality clothing. Jo visits the factories every six months to connect and collaborate with our fantastic suppliers.
We are also proud to be certified by Control Union to the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS). This means you can be sure the clothes in this collection, and all Kite collections, are kind to the environment and to those making them.
Photoshoot fun
A huge moment for the whole Kite team is when we get to see the clothes on children at our photoshoot.
We spend several fun-filled days dancing, singing and being a bit silly, all in the name of getting the best shots! Our photographer, Steve, has been working with us for ten years, and we hope you agree he does a fantastic job!
