What Flies Our Kite - Biscuits, Books and Sustainable Brands

The team’s latest adventures, loves and discoveries...

We’re big believers in the little joys – those uplifting moments, places and passions that brighten our days and inspire what we do here at Kite.

Each month, we round up a few things that are flying our collective kite… from books we couldn’t put down, to favourite recipes and brilliant new brands.

As we step into autumn, here’s a final taste of summer and what the Kite team got up to in August.

New collection launch event

We were absolutely delighted to host our very first launch event for the AW25 collection at The Cowshed in Lytchett. It was a wonderful opportunity to come together, share ideas and celebrate with so many friends of the brand. We’re so thankful to everyone who gave their time, energy and enthusiasm to make the day such a success.

In this month’s What Flies Our Kite, we’re sharing a few of the brilliant brands, books and recipes we discovered along the way – that made the event extra special.

UpCircle - sustainable skincare

UpCircle was founded on a simple (but ambitious) question: What if skincare and haircare could be made from things that would otherwise go to waste?

Never settling for just entry-level ethics, UpCircle goes further with every product made from upcycled ingredients. From coffee and chai spices, to fruit peels, pulp and stones, landfill becomes lovely.

We have become such fans here at Kite HQ. With the Face Oil a tried and tested favourite - we are now officially the office with the very best skin!

Use the code 'KITECIRCLE' for 20% off all products on www.upcirclebeauty.com – one use per customer, valid until 01.10.2025.

The Bubba Hub - try instead of buy

At Kite, we love discovering clever ideas that make family life easier while also being kinder to the planet. The Bubba Hub – a brilliant Dorset-based business run by Melissa – does exactly that.

Instead of buying bulky baby equipment that little ones quickly outgrow, parents can hire it for as long as it’s needed. From travel cots and buggies to toys and carriers, The Bubba Hub helps families access top-quality kit without the waste.

What makes them even more special is the sense of community they’re building. Alongside the hire service, they host family-friendly events that bring people together to share stories and support one another. It’s not just about the kit – it’s about creating a hub (literally!) where families feel connected.

We think it’s such a thoughtful, sustainable idea and a perfect example of how small businesses can make a big difference.

The Kite team's book of 2025 (and it's only September)

The bookworms at Kite HQ have been busy this summer, and one read had us all hooked (and a little teary on our sun loungers) – Broken Country by Clare Leslie Hall. It left jaws dropped right across the team.

Our Brand Manager, Lauren, even put it in her all-time top five – up there with The Paper Palace, The Goldfinch, Where the Crawdads Sing and Little Women.

We were beyond thrilled to announce Broken Country as the very first pick for the Kite Digital Book Club at our launch event. We’ll be sharing all the details very soon on how you can join in – so watch this space!

The ultimate biscuit recipe

At our launch event, we put Nigella’s Butter Biscuit recipe to the test – and it was a hit! Simple, delicious, and perfect for cutting into shapes and decorating.

Biscuit decorating kept guests of all ages entertained, and it’s such a fun way to spend time together. Whether it’s a rainy afternoon activity or just a chance to get creative in the kitchen, this is a recipe we’ll be reaching for again and again as autumn arrives.

Team adventures

You can always rely on the Kite team to keep busy over summer! Here’s a couple of highlights from our August adventures...

We Out Here festival

This local festival based in Wimborne St Giles has a great atmosphere and is perfect for family adventures. Featuring a family zone, with rides and activities for everyone, it is the perfect choice if you're looking for an entry level festival.

Tickets are now on sale for 2026.

Fireworks on the beach

One of the joys of living on the Jurassic Coast are the summer firework displays. Bournemouth, Poole and Swanage all put on spectacular shows this August – and this year we even had a full moon backdrop. Definitely one to add to your diary for next summer holidays.
