The Kite Kids' Reading Recommendations
Growing brave means something different for every child. Sometimes it looks like trying something new, sometimes it’s finding the confidence to keep going after a wobble and sometimes it’s discovering that you’re capable of more than you thought.
That’s why we’ve teamed up with Micro Scooters for our latest competition and invited them to share their thoughts on one of childhood’s most exciting milestones: the first scoot.
In this guest blog, the Micro Scooters team explores the magic behind those first rides and how small moments on three wheels can help children grow in confidence, one push at a time.
MICRO SCOOTERS GUEST BLOG
"Growing Brave" isn't about being fearless. It is the courage of giving it another go. Trying. Wobbling. Starting again.
For many preschoolers, growing brave begins on three wheels. One day they’re hesitant, sticking close, unsure of their balance. Then suddenly, something clicks. They push, glide, and keep going and the result is much more than just getting from A to B.
Those all-important milestones start here – in the magic of the first scoot.
Problem solving for bravery
Getting on and riding a scooter isn’t always immediate. There is a problem-solving stage that requires some serious brain power. Working out how to shift body weight and balance to enable travel requires cognitive skill. Once they master it and realise they can be the pilot of their own adventure is a magical ‘I can’ moment.
Being brave is knowing when to stop
The rear brake on a Micro Scooter is a skill that a child needs to learn to master. Learning when to stop is just as brave as learning when to go. It’s a milestone of self-control.
When they see a puppy or a puddle and decide to brake, they are showing a growing awareness of the world around them.
Overcoming different scooting surfaces to conquer resilience
Micro Scooters are built for smooth glides, but park paths can be bumpy. "Growing Brave" is what happens when they hit a stone, lose their balance, and decide to get back on. Time to celebrate the big "dust-off." It’s the milestone where they learn that a little stumble is just a small part of a much bigger, faster, more exciting story.
The "Leading the Way" milestone
Have you noticed how their pace changes as they get confident? Suddenly, they are a few feet ahead of you, looking back with a grin. This is the milestone of independence. A Micro Scooter gives them a sense of speed that their little legs can't achieve alone, expanding their world and their confidence.
Preparing for the expedition
Putting on a Micro Scooter helmet and checking the "bell" is all part of the responsibility of owning a scooter. It teaches a preschooler that being brave also means being prepared.
Which Micro is Right for Your Little Explorer?
Choosing their first set of wheels is a big milestone! To help them feel brave and secure, it’s all about finding the scooter that matches their size and confidence. Here is a quick guide to the Micro range:
The Mini 4 in 1 (Ages 12 Months–6 Years)
If your little one is just finding their feet? This 4-in-1 scooter is a brilliant investment. It starts as a ride-on with a parent push-handle and evolves into a classic Mini Micro, no tools needed.
It’s best for: Early starters and tentative riders who want to join in the fun with older siblings whilst the parent stays in complete control.
The Mini Micro Deluxe (Ages 2–5)
This is the gold standard 3 wheel scooter for preschoolers. It’s feather-light, making it easy for little ones to manoeuvre without feeling overwhelmed.
It’s best for: Toddlers ready to take on the world in their "I can do it myself" era. The adjustable handlebar means it grows as they do, while the lean-to-steer system develops their coordination naturally.
The Maxi Micro Deluxe (Ages 5–12)
Is your preschooler tall for their age or approaching their 5th birthday? The Maxi is the "big kid" grown up version of the Mini.
It’s best for: Older kids who are new to the scooting scene or those still needing confidence that three wheels provides. The lowest handlebar setting on a Maxi is roughly the same as the highest on a Mini, making it a seamless transition for a growing brave explorer.
