Designing dino journey
Have you ever wondered how we create our classic Kite prints?
Read on to take a peek into the world of Kite as we share the journey of how one of our new season designs was brought to life.
Our inspiration comes from many different places. For this print, we studied the immense journeys taken by dinosaurs, focussing on sauropods because they travelled such vast distances.
We explored the prehistoric terrain these dinosaurs would have trekked across, mixing colours and textures with a fun Kite twist to create a vibrant palette.
One of the best parts is creating fun characters we know you'll love.
We gave our colourful dinosaurs cheeky smiles, graphic stripes and different poses to make them instantly likeable.
Through research, we learned that these dinos roamed all over the world, but many fossils have been found in Western North America.
We brought together different plants, colours and textures to build a rich picture of their landscape and journey.
Our in-house artist experimented with colour and created multiple different versions.
After discussions and team input, occasionally involving a group vote (!), the final design and colourway were selected.

The blue-toned background makes our colourful dinos pop, while the surface speckles and plants create a home for them.
Next, we send a 32 cm tile to the print house where it is placed on the fabric using a process called rotary screen printing.
GOTS-certified paste or ink is applied through cylindrical stencils. The print is built as it passes underneath each colour.
The printed fabric then gets cut and stitched to make our beautiful garments!
